1. Create a new empty layer (Shift+Ctrl+N) and name it "vignette".
2. Fill the layer with Black (fade the layer out to 50% Opacity so you can see your image in the layer below).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Select the elliptical marquee tool & Draw a circle in the middle of your image where you want the fade out to start.
4. Go to Select / Modify / Feather (Shift + F6) and choose the amount of feathering required. In this case the working image is only small, so I have chosen a Feather Radius of 35 pixels.
5. Press the Delete Key.
6. Change the Vignette Layer Opacity back to 100%.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And there you have it!.. a simple and effective vignette that draws the eye to the centre of the image, masking out the "busy" surroundings of the photo.
